On The Rocks sixties band - Music of the Sixties
On The Rocks have been playing together in various incarnations since 1994, although most of the band have been friends since they were teenagers in the late 1970's.
OTR play all sorts of music from the 1960's (and sometimes drifting into the late 50's or early 70's), from rock'n'roll to pop and rock, including favourites from the Beatles, Stones, Who, Faces, Monkees and Shadows to name but a few.
The driving force behind the band, Beatles fan Colin is also musical director and arranges all OTR's songs. He plays an authentic Beatles style Hofner Violin Bass, in tribute to his hero Paul McCartney. Colin is the first point of contact for booking the band and is always happy to discuss possible opportunities for gigs.
Playing either his black Fender Stratocaster "Strat Plus" or distinctive red Hofner "Verythin", lead guitarist Paul tackles classic riffs and lead breaks from Chuck Berry to Buddy Holly and occasional instrumentals from The Shadows or The Ventures. Since adding a Roland Guitar Synth to his Strat, Paul's guitar can also be heard sounding like a saxophone, Hammond organ or even orchestral strings - spooky!
Alan Bohling was rhythm guitarist with 60's sensation Sons of Fred, and his claims to fame include recording at Abbey Road and appearing on Ready Steady Go.
Alan wrote all of Sons of Fred's hit singles, which are still available on the ''Freak beat' album. OTR were privileged to have Alan join in 2002 after he returned to the UK from the USA.
The beat behind OTR since the very beginning, drummer Beck not only provides the rhythm section, he also takes lead vocals on a number of songs - especially where a grittier rock sound is needed. So if you hear a Mick Jagger or Roger Daltrey impression, that'll be Beck!
Country music enthusiast and pop trivia expert Rosemary has been singing with Colin since her early childhood... she's his sister! Rosie sings lead vocals on a number of songs, providing backing harmonies on others and also adds a little extra percussion with tambourine or maracas - for that authentic sixties sound.
